A Food & Wine Best Cookbook of the Year

A Library Journal Best Cookbook of the Year

Jessie Sheehan's lickety-split recipes, dynamic personality, and kitchen savvy advice have made her a beloved food personality on social media. In Salty, Cheesy, Herby, Crispy, she relies on the same assemble-in-minutes-with-everyday-ingredients mandate that has become her calling card, but now ventures into new flavor territory. Eschewing marshmallow creme in favor of pimiento cheese, Sheehan bakes up scrumptious, savory treats that are perfect for a snack board ("girl dinner," anyone?), offer sustenance for game night, and can easily stand in for lunch or grace the table at brunch. Think Hot Pepper Jelly and Cream Cheese Stuffed Muffins, Smash Burger Hand Pies with Cheese, Pepperoni Pizza Galette with Ricotta, or some Butter Crackers with Melty Cheese and Sour Pickles. With classic snackable style, Sheehan also provides a few "shortcut" staples, like Magic Melted Butter Pie Dough and Quickest (yet Tastiest) Caramelized Onions. Fun, playful, and exceptionally delicious recipes, accompanied by gorgeous photographs, make this a must-have book for 2024 and beyond.

Sheehan, TikTok phenom and author of Snackable Bakes (a New York Times Best Cookbook of 2022), proves she is an equal-opportunity snackable baker by pivoting from the sweet to the savory side of the kitchen with her latest clever cookbook. It's dedicated to easy treats that can be whipped up in record time. Divided into chapters such as "The Sliceables," "Toasty Handhelds," and "Breads You Need (But Don't Knead)," her book offers a dazzlingly delicious assortment of recipes for everything from baby ham and cheese croissants and baked spaghetti pie to a basil peach mascarpone galette. Each chapter opens with a section offering pro tips, fun facts, and instructions for storing and reheating dishes. An invaluable "Essential Savory Hacks" section brilliantly wraps things up, and everything is generously seasoned with Sheehan's delightfully exuberant wit. VERDICT From yummy new options for easy, quick snack dinners to scrumptious choices that will help readers up their charcuterie board game, Sheehan's book has got home cooks covered. In fact, the only challenge cooks will face once they get their oven mitts on Sheehan's marvelously inventive, tasty treat of a cookbook will be deciding where to start.--John Charles
